Wendell H. Johnson, 76, of Wallins, KY went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 25, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born August 10, 1947, in Molus, KY to the late Hillary and Della Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a retired coal miner and a member of the Wallins Church of God. He loved to serve the Lord and to help others. He accepted the Lord into his life, October 18, 2008, on a Saturday at 10:04 pm. Mr. Johnson had his Salvation date wrote down, because his faith meant so much to him. He was also a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam War.
He is preceded in death other than his parents by his brothers, Keen, George and Elden Johnson; his sisters, Alma McMullen, Audrey Long and Curlen Saylor.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife, Beverly Saylor Johnson of Wallins, KY; his loving children, Rev. Wendell Johnson Jr. and wife Bethany of Lancaster, KY and Robin Blakely and husband Robert of Greenville, SC. His grandchildren, Ashlyn Blakely and husband Wesley, Morgan Blakely, Emily Wolthoff and husband William and Wendell Ethan Johnson III. His brother, Wade Johnson of Molus, KY and his sister, Veronica Anglin of Molus, KY along with a host of relatives and friends also will mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 1-PM in the chapel of the Henson & Rich Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Simpson and the Rev. Wendell Johnson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Harlan County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Robbie Blakely, Russell Burkhart, Terry Saylor, George Anglin, Ethan Johnson and Will Wolthoff.
Visitation will also be on Thursday, from 12-PM until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Samaritans Purse of Soles for Souls.
