Steve Sergent

Steve Allen Sergent’s faith became sight on Monday afternoon, February 14, 2022, with his beloved wife, Marsha, by his side. Steve was born June 22, 1957, to Emmett & Gladys (Pack) Sergent and was welcomed into his family by siblings Gary & Vicki.  Steve spent a portion of his childhood in Covington, KY, before his family returned to Rhea, KY, where he lived until his passing.  Steve, “Sarge,” worked as a coal miner before making the decision to pursue a bachelor’s degree from Union College. After graduation, Steve worked in the mining engineering field until his retirement in 2020. He loved his work family at Howard Engineering & Geology.

Steve was a wonderful husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend. He was always willing to share his love for Christ by loving those around him as he served them and his Savior. He always had at least a smile and a kind word for those he encountered, if not a hug, too. Steve was thankful to be a part of the church family at Putney Bible Church.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Glady Sergent; paternal grandparents, Willie Byrd and Martha Sergent; maternal grandparents, John and Lockie Pack.

Steve is survived by his wife, Marsha Ritchie Sergent, Rhea, KY; two daughters: Becky Sergent, Phenix City, AL, and Hannah (Eric) Greene, Pineville, KY; two step-sons: Jeremy (Jen) Wriston, Weaverille, NC, and Greg Wriston, Riegelsville, PA; four grandchildren: Leah Wiseman, Phenix City, AL, Elliot Greene, Pinevlle, KY, Ember Wriston, Weaverville, NC, Indigo Wriston, who Steve was looking forward to welcoming in March; two siblings: Gary (Durinda) Sergent, Villa Hills, KY, and Vicki Sergent, Goose Creek, SC; a cousin, who was more like a sister: Regina (Weldon) Bowman; a special “niece”: Samatha (Justin) Parker, Putney, KY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Visitation will be held at Henson & Rich Funeral Home on Friday, February 18 from 4:00 - 6:00.  Funeral services will be conducted immediately following the visitation with Rev. Britt Lawson III officiating. Steve will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery. 

Danny Caudill, Jason Childers, Donnie Cooper, Eric Greene, Dave Jones, Tim Messer, Justin Parker, Austin Sergent, and Gary Sergent will serve as pallbearers.
