Scott Broughton, 58, of Speedwell, TN, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, November 11, 2019 with his wife and family by his side.
Scott was a 1979 graduate of James A. Cawood High School. He was born and raised in Harlan, KY. He followed his fathers footsteps and began work at a young age at Gaines Lumber and Sawmill. He later spent years working for Blevins Logging, before becoming owner and operator of Broughton Logging in 1994 until he closed the company in 2019 due to his illness. Scott was also and avid fisherman and master of fish stories. He was known best around his friends for his jokes and wise words. He was a very wise man, devoted husband, loving father and pap, and caring friend to so many. He never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. He loved his big family with all of his heart.
He is preceded in death by his father, Earl Broughton, his son, John Maggard, and his brother in law, Harvey “Tic” Johnson.
He is survived by he love of his life, Carol, his wife of 40 years. His three daughters, Katina (Ralph) Yount of Cawood, KY. Roxie (Ray) Jackson of Speedwell, TN and Kimberlee Broughton of Tazewell, TN. His grandchildren, Alex (Derrick) Hoskins of Rosspoint, KY. Cody (Ashley) Maggard of Pineville, KY. Tyler (Ashley) Maggard of Hazard, KY. Zachary Jackson of Harlan, KY. Rhianna and Madison Jackson of Speedwell, TN. And Carson Yount of Cawood, KY. His great-grandchildren, Blakelee Hoskins of Rosspoint, KY. Paisley Maggard and Nevarah Wilkins of Hazard, KY. His mother, Lynette Broughton of Baxter, KY. His brother, Charles (Paige) Broughton of Cawood, KY. His sisters, Nancy (Tom) Massingale of Tomkinsville, KY. Betty (Calvin) Massingale of Harlan, KY. Earlene Rouse of Baxter, KY. Becky (Mark) Ward of Harlan, KY. Amanda and Betina Broughton, of Harlan, KY. Special nephews, Tim (Jennifer) Johnson of Russelville, TN and Zachary Scott Broughton of Harlan, KY. As well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and very special friends.
Memorial services will be Monday, November 18, 2019 at 6 o’clock in the chapel of Henson & Rich Funeral Home with Elder Steve Powell and Elder Kyle Thompson officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will between the hours of 3 & 6 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
