Mary Boggs Turner Obituary

Mary Katherine Boggs Turner was born on Monday, April 23, 1934, to the loving arms of Nancy Jane Baker Boggs and William Floyd Boggs and departed this life on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, surrounded by her devoted children.

Katherine was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved gardening and working in her yard. She made several quilts too many to count, but she gifted them to every member of her family as well as special people in her life with each stitch made with love. No matter the trials and tribulations she may have been facing on her own, she was still always caring for others. She was a member of Cedar Chapel U.B. Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and was a board member of the Laurel Mission for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Elzie Turner, her parents Floyd and Nancy Boggs; her son, Wilburn Turner, who she selflessly cared for, for 61 years; her brother, Bob Boggs; her sister, Ora Mae Cornett; her 2 great grandchildren, Emily and Charleston; her sons-in-law, Darrell Gabbard and Lonis Wells,

She is survived by her children, Joyce Sizemore and husband Daugh of Roark, KY, Floyd Turner and wife Doris of Bledsoe, KY, Shirley Wells of Bledsoe, KY, Wanda Gabbard of Clayhoe, KY, Lois Goins and husband Earl of Harlan, KY, Colleen Sturgill and husband Mitchell of Beverly, KY, and Ken Smith whom she thought of as a son and his wife Sharron. Her sisters, Gerry Brown of East Bernstadt, KY, Virginia Fee of Franklin, OH and Patsy Baker of Big Laurel, KY. She also survived by 16 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren,10 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday August 24th at 2 o’clock at Cedar Chapel Church in Big Laurel, KY with Rev. Ken Smith and Rev. Nathan Boggs officiating.

Burial will follow at Turner Farm Family Cemetery in Bledsoe with Rev. Larry Toner officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at Cedar Chapel Church, 7 Cedar Chapel Road Big Laurel, Ky 40808 from 4 PM until the funeral hour on Sunday.
