Mr. Luther Cornett, 88, of Girdler, passed away Sunday morning, January 13, 2019 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. He was the son of the late Alman and Betty Boggs Cornett born on June 10, 1930 in Letcher County.
Luther was a retired maintenance employee from the University of Michigan and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing horseshoes.
In 2012, he united in marriage with Christleen Smith. Earlier in life he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Jane Lewis and Dorothy May Rinesmith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Rinesmith; siblings, Bonnie Mink, Thelma Hobbs and Claude Cornett and a stepson, Reedie Joe Smith.
Survivors include his loving wife, Christleen Cornett of Girdler; eight children, Larry and Jan Cornett of Howell, MI, Teddy and Sally Cornett of Belleville, MI, Danny and Nancy Cornett of Harlan, Terry Cornett of Baxter, Jerry and Mary Cornett of Baxter, Jeff and Debbie Cornett of Baxter, Tim and Lisa Cornett of Harlan and Brenda and Jerry Lindlbauer of Leslie, MI; eight step-children, Betty Ann and Floyd Bullock Jr. of Smokey, Priscilla Ann Belcher of Barbourville, Billy D. and Judy Smith of Girdler, Evelyn and Larry Patterson of Hinkle, Dale Lee Smith of Girdler, Shana and Danny Hudson of Barbourville, Patricia and Moose Turner of London and Grover Jr. and Mary Smith of Girdler; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His 13funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, January 17 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Jabe Smith and Rev. William R. “Man” Cobb officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Nan Riley Cemetery with military funeral honors.
Carers will be James Smith, Steven Smith, Danny Hudson, Cory Miller, Dustin Massingale, Dillon Cornett , Jerry Lindlbauer and Jeff Cornett.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Thursday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
