Jennifer June (Turner) Hensley

June 5, 1942 ~ August 25, 2023 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Obituary

It is with great sadness that Anthony Hensley (Sheila), Renee Saylor (Troy), Lynn Husley (Tom), and Denise Napier (Clark) tell you of the loss of our mother, Jennifer June Hensley (Turner) on August 25, 2023 in the early evening. Mom was born on June 5, 1942 to Will and Mossie Turner (Lewis). This beautiful little, blond headed girl grew up in Big Laurel, Kentucky and lived several places before settling in Corbin, Kentucky where she passed under the care of Christian Care Community staff. She passed peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mom “June” was preceded in death by her parents Will and Mossie Turner, her brother, Glynn “Pete” Turner, her husband Wayne Hensley, and long-time partner Sherman Ward.

She is survived by her children listed above, sister Kathy Napier (Ken), her grand- children – April Kemp (Clay), Clark Napier (Heather), Aaron Hulsey, Lindsey Heimbrock (Phil), Amber Nantz (Daniel), Kaitlyn Hensley, Andrew Hensley, Alison Hensley, Larry Saylor (Brittany), Andrea Nease (Cameron), and Abigail Saylor. Great-grand-children – Joshua Haley (Bethany), Zay Kemp, Hunter Napier, MaKinlee Saylor, Lincoln Heimbrock, and Theo Heimbrock.

June, or mommy, as most people lovingly called her graduated from Red Bird Settlement School after attending Pine Mountain Settlement School. Pine Mountain was important to her as William and Sal Creech were her great-grandparents. After graduating from Red Bird she married Wayne and they had three lovely girls, (if I do say so myself!) and one pretty, cute red headed boy we lovingly call Red!

She worked for Red Bird in the Early Childhood Development program doing home visits and preparing kids for kindergarten. She loved doing this and when she moved to Bowling Green she worked at First Baptist Daycare where she provided loving care to many children over her 15 years there. She retired from there as the Assistant Director.

We invite you to attend visitation on Tuesday evening, September 5, 2023 from 5:00-8:00pm and a celebration of her life on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 1:00 at with Rev. Mark Hisle and Rev. Troy Saylor officiating at Henson & Rich Funeral Home which is located at 414 East Mound Street, Harlan, KY 40831. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY.

If you’d like to donate to Family Enrichment Center, 1133 Adams Street, Bowling Green, Kentucky 42101 for their Little Learners Program, your gift would be greatly appreciated. Mom volunteered for FEC over the years and believed in the work they do for children and families.
