Freddie Lee (Fred) Brassfield passed away early on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
Fred was born March 27, 1947 in Highsplint, KY to the late William Luke Brassfield and Margaret Brassfield (Short). He is preceded in death by his daughter, Erica Leigh Brassfield Miller, 2 sisters, Juanita Venable and Elvina Earles, 6 brothers, Rowland, Bill, Jim, "The Twins" and Don Brassfield.
He is survived by brother W.L Brassfield and wife Joey, son Frederick Brassfield, Grandkids Alex, Berkley and Hudson Brassfield and Granddaughter Haleigh Miller.
Fred was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran serving active duty from 10 October 1967--22 September 1969. He was awarded Army Commendation Medal with Valor, 3 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Army Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged and released in the rank and grade of Sargeant E-5 after completion of creditable active service.
Fred was a very simple man. He loved the lake and going fishing with his family and close friends. He enjoyed grilling out and having fish fry's, karaoke, telling jokes, going to the kids' ball games and tinkering with about anything. He loved his family and was the true definition of a provider.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, Sept. 27th at Henson & Rich Funeral Home at 11AM with funeral services following at 1 o’clock with Rev. Paul White officiating.
Burial services will follow at Resthaven Cemetery with Military Burial Honors by Harlan County Honor Guard.
