Ethel Ball Obituary

Ethel Kathleen Ball, was born on May 30, 1935, to Woodrow and Verlie Alley in Harlan, KY. She resided in Harlan throughout her life where she raised her family. Her family filled her life with joy, and she was always proud to say that she started it all as her family grew. She departed this life on Monday, July 29, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was a devoted Christian who loved witnessing for the Lord. She especially loved teaching Sunday school; her church kids affectionately called her Granny Ball and loved when she would cook breakfast for them. She was very involved in the church, especially when it came to spreading the word to the community or planning church dinners.

Kathleen worked at Harlan ARH, working her way up from the cafeteria to a physical therapist assistant. She was also a proud member of the United Steelworkers Union. She was known by the community for her sugar eggs, peanut butter roll, and chicken and dumplings.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents Woodrow and Verlie Alley, her husband John Ball, her beloved daughters Sylvia and Felisdia, and her brother Rev. Woodrow Alley Jr.

She is survived by her only son Bill Ball and wife Sherry, who were her caretakers for the last five years. Her brothers Dennis Alley and wife Dotty, Joe Alley and Eunice (Puny) Vickers

She was a loving and proud grandmother to: Amy Bennett (Benny), Kelli Bledsoe, Billy Ball (Samantha), Heather Clem (Dustin), Hadassa Irwin (Chris), and Ashley Daniels.

Great grandchildren: Ryan Bennett (Kayla), Kaitlyn Hardy (Hunter), Kaycee Bennett, Payton North (Tommy), Leah Bailey (Caleb), Elizabeth Ball, Kellie Bennett (Lance), Laura Ball, Trey Ball, Reagan Clem, Heath Ball, Grace Irwin, Brielle Daniels, and Lakynn Clem.

Great-great grandchildren: Josie Bennett, Journee Bennett, Hadley Bennett, Bentley Irvin, Emmaline Bailey, Addie Jane Bullock, Carson, Presley, and baby girl Hardy.

The family would like to thank Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice for the help, care, and guidance provided during this difficult time in their lives. The family could not have taken care of her without their help. Special thanks to Susan Howard, Gail Risner, Ali Simpson, and Lisa Perry.

The family will be having a celebration of life at the Chapel of Resthaven Cemetery on Thursday, August 1st at 11AM for anyone that would like to attend. The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
