Donnie Ray Powell, 81, of Nicholasville, Ky, formerly of Chevrolet, KY, went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Saturday October 23, 2021. Don’s last days of his earthly life was spent at his home with his wife and family. He was born on November 9, 1939, at Cumberland, Harlan Co., KY to the late Pascal and Marie Powell.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law, Smith Doepel, and his daughter in law, Jeanette Powell.

Remaining to remember Don always is his wife, Priscilla Doepel Powell, to whom he was married 55 years. Also surviving are sons: Michael Joseph, David Pascal, and Richard Alan and wife Rebecca. Daughter, Karen Gail. Grandchildren, Ashley Brooke (Jeff) Sullivan, Jared Dalton Powell, Kathryn Paige (Matt) Powell-Webb, Nicholas Ray Powell, Haley Brooke Powell, Jake Reaves Powell, and Brody Ray Powell. Great grandsons, Jeffrey Tucker Sullivan, Colton Michael Sullivan, and Nathaniel “Nate” Sullivan. Brothers, Roy (Sadie) Powell, and Roger (Sharon) Powell. Sisters, Ann (Cecil) Adams, Sue (Lee) Rutherford. Also, his mother-in-law, Iva Noe Doepel and her daughters, Donna, Deb, and Janet; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Growing up at Yancey, Ky, Don accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as a teenager. He was ordained as a deacon at Stonelick Missionary Baptist Church, Batavia, OH. Through the years, Don has served also as a song leader, led many Vacation Bible Schools, and taught adult Sunday School class, his love and calling. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Nicholasville, KY at his death. A veteran of the U.S Army, Don joined the military soon after graduating from Hall High School, Grays Knob, KY. He was a 40-year member of Harlan F&AM 879, and a member of Harlan OES 297, Harlan, KY.

Funeral services will be held on Friday October 29, 2021, at 1PM in the Chapel of the Henson and Rich Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Hoskins officiating. Music will be provided by Charlotte Hoskins. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery with sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers. Military Honors will be performed by the Harlan County Honor Guard.

Visitation will also be held on Friday from 12-1PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to either Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice, 1733 Harrodsburg Rd, Lexington, KY 40304; or to honor his great grandson David “Nate” Sullivan, the Ronald McDonald House, 711 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, OH 43205.
