DENZILE EVANS Obituary

Denzile Ray Evans entered eternal rest on Friday, February 28, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Denzile was born in Jellico, Tn on August 8, 1938, the son of the late Lee and Mary Alice Evans.

He is preceded in death by 11 siblings and one great grandson, Henry Farris. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith Philpot Evans; five children, Greg Evans, Lisa (Bobby) Farris, Theresa Lyons, Travis Ballard and Maranda Evans; four grandchildren, Gregory Evans, Felicia Jones, Zachary Farris and Ashley Coldiron.

Nine great-grandchildren; Zander Farris, Libby Jane Jones, Kaylee Ballard, Connor Jones, Milo Farris, Peyton Ballard., Isaac Kelly, Luke Kelly and Lexi Kelly. Also surviving is a special sister-in-law; Brenda Lacey and niece Leann (Ralph) Turner; great nieces, Breann and Jessica Turner; great nephews, David and Joshua Turner.

Denzile was a proud Navy Veteran having served in the United States Navy from 1955-1963. His Navy service was something he was honored by and spoke frequently of. Denzile retired from Louisville Gas & Electric in 1975. Before becoming ill he enjoyed traveling, fishing and target shooting. He enjoyed and loved his family. Before to Harlan he attended the Okolona Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky.

A celebration of life service will be conducted Monday, March 2, 2020 at 7-PM in the chapel of the Henson & Rich Funeral Home with the Rev. David Overbay officiating. Family will also receive family and friends on Monday, starting at 5-PM until the funeral hour.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the Resthaven Cemetery with Military Rites observed by the Harlan Co. Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be, Travis Ballard, David Turner, Joshua Turner and Ralph Turner.
